The problem

The target is a 64×64 binary image of the Classiq logo with 1,097 marked pixels. Two 6-qubit registers encode the coordinates x and y. Build a phase oracle that flips the phase of every computational basis state whose (x, y) lands on a marked pixel, and leaves every other state unchanged.

Up to 6 clean ancillas are available (18 qubits total). The oracle is transpiled to u3 and cx gates under all-to-all connectivity. Submissions are ranked by circuit depth, then CX count. A working (unoptimized) baseline is provided; your goal is to improve it.

Scoring metrics

depth

Circuit depth after transpilation to u3/cx. Primary ranking key, lower is better.

cx_count

Number of two-qubit CX gates. Tie-breaker when depths are equal.

width

Qubits used: 12 coordinate + up to 6 ancillas. Informational, capped at 18.

Build your oracle

Start from the baseline notebook, then optimize your synthesis for depth.

Submit & keep climbing

Upload your .qmod and .qasm for automatic grading. As others improve, you'll get passed — so resubmit (up to once per hour) and keep optimizing until the challenge closes.
